Kirtland to offer community education classes

 

ROSCOMMON – Area residents will have a chance to study or brush up on a variety of subjects this fall and winter, with Kirtland Community College again set to offer an assortment of community education classes, with some of these costing just $10 per course.

“We fell that the community gives a lot to the college and by offering these community education classes at such a low cost, we are giving back to the community in a small way,” said Mark Burger, director of Kirtland’s eServices and community education coordinator.

Classes will take place regardless of the number of registrations received. Additional information, schedules and registration forms can be found online at http://kirtland.edu/commed/ or by calling 989-275-5000, extension 279.

“The goal of our offerings is to help assure that citizens receive benefit from KCC by offering non-credit classes of interest to the public,” Burger added. “With a wide variety of offerings, people of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from these classes.”

Dates and times for classes to be offered this fall and winter include:

  • Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Kirtland’s main campus near Roscommon in the Administration Building, Room 111: Microsoft Excel CEC 12207. In this introductory workshop, you will explore the basics of Excel. Cost is $25 and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required.
  • Nov. 4, 18 and 25, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Crawford County Public Library in Grayling: “Introduction to Computers,” CEC 12201. Learn to copy and paste text and pictures from your computer in CEC 12232. Or how to deal with computer viruses, worms and other troublemakers by taking CEC 12231. To reserve a seat, call 989-348-9214. Cost is $10 per course.
  • Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Kirtland’s main campus, Administration Building, Room 111: Microsoft Word CEC 12307. This introductory workshop teaches the basics of Word. Cost is $25 and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required. 
  • Jan. 12, 19 and 26, and Feb. 2, 9 and 16 (six-week class), from 4 to 5:50 p.m. at the Hanson Hills Recreational Area in Grayling (http://www.hansonhills.org/): Cross Country Skiing CEC 11605. This introductory course is designed to provide a wide range of experiences in cross country skiing. Cost is $60, which includes trail pass and rental. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
  • March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., main campus near Roscommon, Administration Building, Room 111: Advanced Microsoft Excel CEC 12216. This is an advanced workshop featuring Excel. Cost is $25 and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required.
  • March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., main campus, Administration Building, Room 111: Advanced Microsoft Word CEC 12304. This is an advanced workshop featuring Word. Cost is $25 and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required.


Annually, about 3,200 students attend a variety of certificate and two-year degree programs at Kirtland’s three locations – near Roscommon, and the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) in Gaylord and in West Branch – with the college’s service area including all or parts of Crawford, Oscoda, Ogemaw, Roscommon, Otsego, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Gladwin and Alcona counties, and the surrounding areas.
