Kirtland men’s basketball team wins conference opener

ROSCOMMON – The Kirtland
men’s basketball team has been on a roll, winning their last eight games,
and they’re continuing to roll with their first Eastern Conference win of
the year, defeating Wayne County Community College 88-85 in overtime
Wednesday, Jan. 5, in Detroit.
Victor Hamilton and Frank Washington led the Firebirds in scoring with 17
apiece against Wayne, followed closely by Antonio Berry with 16, Craig Ash
with 14 and Bernard Daniels with 13.
Leading in rebounds were Washington and Ash with nine apiece. Berry had
six assists and David Allison led in steals with four.
The Firebirds are now 1-0 in conference play, and 11-3 overall. The
conference schedule continues with the Firebirds playing on their home
court at the CRAF Center in Roscommon Saturday, Jan. 8, when they host
Oakland Community College. Game time at the CRAF Center is 1 p.m. for the
Firebirds women’s team and 3 p.m. for the men’s. |
