Kirtland’s men’s team loses to Oakland
|
ROSCOMMON – It was Kirtland’s
second heartbreaking loss in five days, despite the efforts of Firebirds
DeMarvelous Carter and Frank Washington. Carter sank 26 points against
Oakland Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 2, and Washington added 23,
but it wasn’t enough to close the gap in the 93-89 road loss.
Bernard Daniels was also in double digits for the Firebirds with 11
points, as was David Allison with 10. Washington and Daniels led in
assists, with 8 and 7, respectively, while Craig Ash pulled down a
daunting 16 rebounds.
“We struggled with this game, though,” said disappointed Firebirds’
coach Glen Donahue. “We have to come back and play well for the rest of
the season.”
Kirtland’s 5-4 MCCAA Eastern Conference record (15-8 overall) keeps the
Firebirds in third place in the conference, behind Mott CC (9-0) and
Henry Ford CC (6-2). With only six games remaining in the regular
season, however, Kirtland’s chances to make a bid for second place
continue to narrow.
The Firebirds face second-place Henry Ford CC on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 3
p.m. at the CRAF Center in Roscommon. They also play at home Wednesday,
Feb. 9, against Delta College and Saturday, Feb. 12, against St. Clair
CCC – their last two home games of the season. Admission is free. |
