ROSCOMMON – Kirtland Community
College’s men’s basketball team ended its regular season on a high note,
defeating Macomb Community College 70-62 on Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Warren.
Mike Dunlop, of Boyne Falls, led the Firebirds with 22 points in the
contest. Center Craig Ash, from Pontiac, dominated under the boards with
12 rebounds and added 11 points. DeMarvelous Carter, of Romulus, scored
12 for the Firebirds.
The win boosted the Firebirds above the 50 percent mark with a Michigan
Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference record of 8-7
(18-11 overall). This was good for a fourth-place finish in the
conference, behind Wayne County CC in third at 8-6 (11-13).
Mott CC placed first with a perfect 15-0 record (26-2 overall), while
Henry Ford CC came in second at 9-5 (17-8).
The Firebirds’ post-season schedule begins Saturday, March 5, when they
host Vincennes University (Ind.) at the CRAF Center in Roscommon for the
Region XII Division 1 Tournament. Game time is 3 p.m. and there will be
an admission charge.
The winner of that game advances to the Region IV tournament in Illinois
on March 14. |
