ROSCOMMON – Emilee Bruner, a Kirtland Community College sophomore from Mio, has been chosen as Kirtland’s nominee to the All-USA Community College Academic Team. As a result of this nomination, she becomes a member of the All-Michigan Academic Team and will be honored in March at an award luncheon in Lansing, along with Kirtland President Dr. Charles Rorie.
Bruner is working toward an associate in arts degree and hopes to someday earn a master’s degree in secondary education. She maintains a 3.75 grade-point average at Kirtland, in addition to being a full-time member of Kirtland’s Lady Firebirds basketball team and part-time student worker.
The All-USA Community College Academic Team program is sponsored annually by Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of the two-year college, as well as USA Today and the American Association of Community Colleges. Those selected to the national teams receive stipends of $2,500 each.
Kirtland’s financial aid office has granted Bruner a $200 scholarship for her nomination. Any further scholarships will be announced along with the national rankings.
