KIRTLAND REGIONAL POLICE ACADEMY
DEDICATED TO PROVIDING TRAINING THROUGH EXCELLENCE,
INTEGRITY, AND COURTESY

The Kirtland Regional Police Academy is dedicated to providing
training — through excellence, integrity, and courtesy — to Michigan’s
future law enforcement officers.
These officers serve the citizens of Michigan and their communities
with pride and competence. Kirtland Regional Police Academy opened in
1995 as a program of the Criminal Justice Department at Kirtland
Community College. The 17-week Academy program is certified by the
Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).

Academy training provides prospective police officers with the
stringent self-discipline and attention to detail that can often mean
the difference between life and death on the job.
Military courtesy is observed at the Academy, and students are
required to abide by a strict code of conduct, including dress code.
While in many fields, such strictures may be considered unnecessary and
even archaic, we believe the rigors of military discipline breed
diligence, self-control and respect for authority - all qualities
necessary to the success and safety of a police officer.
